Digital Certificates for Online Signing and Authentication

The Digital Certificates solution allows any digital document to be electronically signed with full legal value

Namirial offers Various Types of Digital Certificates

The Digital Certificates solution includes different types of certificates used for electronic signing.

While the Electronic Signature solutions offer  flexible use cases based on e-signature software, Namirial also offers a variety of certificates as a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP). With these certificates electronic signatures can be applied with different document types: XML Advanced Electronic Signatures (XAdES), PDF Advanced Electronic Signatures (PAdES) and CMS Advanced Electronic Signatures (CAdES) and can be written in the Long-Term Validation (LTV) format. Depending on the use and different use cases, the following types of certificates are offered.

Signatures and Seal Overview

Remote Signature Certificates

Remote Signature Certificates require prior account registration and identification and are typical one- or three-year certificates built into e-Signature software. This generates user benefits for a recurring signing process. Identification can be done online via a Registration Authority Officer (RAO), Face2Face (F2F), video, or offline via an Interested Third Party (ITP, e.g. employer) for standard and general purpose certificates. As an alternative to remote certificates, we offer local certificates that are issued on signature devices such as smart cards or USB tokens.

Remote Automatic Signatures

Remote Automatic Signatures are a specific type of remote signature used in the unattended signing process. This signature has a specific usage limit that is applied to each signature and means that the signature is only valid in a specific workflow. A typical scenario is signing an electronic invoice or countersigning contracts. This signature can be used with the Namirial Signature Web Service.

Electronic Seals

Seals are technically similar to the options above, but with different legal objectives, which are issued to legal entities such as companies or institutions. They can be used like a company stamp on paper, resulting in Qualified e-Seals documenting the integrity and veracity of origin where eIDAS is applicable.

Disposable Signature Certificates

One-Time Certificates (OTC) capture Qualified and Advanced Electronic Signatures (QES and AES) from unregistered users and work seamlessly with the Electronic Signature solution. These can be integrated directly into the Namirial solutions or with a third-party solution via hash signing. When issued as a Qualified Electronic Certificate (QES), Namirial calls them Disposable Signature Certificates.

They are used to capture Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) with a specific usage limit, duration and expiration date. This certificate has a life-time of 60 minutes and can be used in a signing process during this period and is valid for up to 30 days.

This type of certificate is often used in scenarios where an integrator wants their customer to sign a contract or something similar. Our audited manuals even allow such certificates to be issued with later activation, where the identification happens after signing, before they become valid as a Qualified Electronic Certificate (QEC).

For those interested in offering qualified trust services themselves, Namirial offers PKI-as-a-Service (PKIaaS), which allows third-party organizations to set up their own Certificate Authority (CA) business and convert them to a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) listed on the European Union Trusted List (EUTL).
